2016-17 minutes are a little deceiving.

Mintz wasn't in the rotation (much angst on the board at the time) until Mo went down.
Hanson also averaged 10 mpg, but he was hurt for much of the year and Hegner got extra minutes.

TSA, Harrell and Ballock were playing big minutes before injuries from Krampelj and Harrell but the only starters that consistently played heavy heavy minutes were Khyri and Foster. If Krampelj stayed healthy, they would have been a sneaky great team.

I wonder what percentage of players will find the portal a disappointing experience? It will be rewarding for players like Nembhard, Dickinson, Abmas, but stark reality will set in for middle to lower level power conference players. The grass is not always greener on the other side, although I suspect NIL deals in general are going up in amounts. But you would think NIL money would end up being comparable at power schools for middle to lower level players, and playing time the only real issue for most lower end players. With so many in the portal, I don’t see how many of these players will indeed get more playing time (always will have a few exceptions who want to play for a top team, and are willing to play less minutes if NIL money is same or greater).

On another note, I am surprised on many comments on this board that seem to be selling Traudt short. If Kaluma is gone, I see Traudt as a clear starter, Miller and Green would be coming off the bench. Dude has some skills, with height and tenacity.

I am really high on Traudt. I honestly feel like he will bring some things to the table that we've been lacking -- some size and physicality at the 4, as well as the ability to shoot from there.

But he has played exactly zero minutes of Division 1 basketball. Miller has been here, in our system, working with our coaches and strength guys for two years and played some meaningful minutes last year. Add in who he is -- with the NBA dad, uncle on the coaching staff, etc. -- and I don't think you can automatically jump Traudt into the starting lineup ahead of him. It totally could happen if Traudt picks everything up quickly, impresses, etc. But if you told me I had to pick our game 1 starting lineup today without Art, I'd probably pencil in Miller as the starter and Traudt coming in off the bench. I could be totally wrong, but that's how I'd see it today.

definitely. If we want to go small, Traudt has the size to match up with a lot of 5's (especially the ones who like to play on the perimeter) and I think we also can play them both with a center to go a bit taller or if Baylor's in foul trouble or something like that

IMO -- for Miller to play at a starter's level for a top15-20 Creighton team, he needs to either get stronger to better defend and rebound from the 4, or faster to better defend the 3. You can probably hide him on defense against lesser competition, maybe that's what the coaches plan to do with him early next season and try to develop him into a more consistent defender. But I think, once he starts playing big minutes and gets scouted and we play opponents with real teeth, his defensive shortcomings will get exposed.

He's in the tweener category and he has to make the leap with his physical profile to better solidify his role, IMO.

Traudt is not a tweener, and pound for pound his body looks much more developed than Miller's at this point. I might be biased because I really thought our lack of strength hurt us late in the regular season. But I would like to see more bodies like Traudt's playing big minutes for this team. He looks ready to contribute.

Both have a jump to make to be a starter. Traudt has yet to play a minute of D1 ball (although he looked good in the scrimmage clips at VA) and while Miller needs to keep getting stronger, he played well down the stretch and his D markedly improved over the year especially in terms of the hustle plays in scrapping for loose balls or getting offensive rebounds. Competition is good and if Kaluma goes to try the NBA we'll have minutes for both so we can matchup with a lot of types of teams

Like I said -- big fan of Traudt. I absolutely believe he's going to be a big star. And I totally agree that he looks the part.

But, again, he has not played a single minute of D1 ball. Miller has been here for two years, played meaningful minutes last year, etc. Mac is almost always going to default first to what he "trusts" -- and I have a hard time right now imagining that at this moment that wouldn't be Miller first. We'll see what happens. I hope they both play a ton next year, though.

My hope is that Miller is good enough to play at both the 3 and 4 next year so we see some of Miller-Traudt at that same time at those spots
