NIL was uncertain at that point and he left. He ends up not getting picked and has gone through 2 years of being paid $40-$60 thousand playing in the G league. He is making less than our current roster. By a lot. He's living the dream, still has a shot but he isn't making much and it will probably end soon. If he would have gone to Europe he would have made more but if he wants the NBA its really hard to do that from Europe.
There's a reason our coaches are recruiting our current players harder than they are 5 star high school players. They are proven and we have a real good shot at keeping them. I can see us losing any one of our starting 5 to the likes of Arizona or Texas because they could double their pay, but not to Europe or the D league.

I agree with the premise of your post, but Z did get drafted in the 2nd round (49th pick). Now if NIL were a thing when Ty-Shon decided to declare and not get drafted, that would be an awful decision financially now.

How does anyone know what our current roster is getting paid? I’ve never seen anything put out there showing what they’re getting.

Just off of rumors. I’ve heard Dotzler is getting $100k to redshirt next year so you can imagine what starters are getting.

From what I heard the collective had a goal of over $1M last season, to be distributed evenly. We only had 10 guys eligible to receive it.

I didn’t hear that we made it but I didn’t hear we didn’t either. It’s been my guess that six figures is our floor, so that’s no surprise.

Lets just say that Jays rank Top 25 in their base NIL package in the nation.

A long while ago I had heard ~$140k per starter + a car lease that they had to make payments on themselves. Info came from someone who is in the "club" of donors to the fund. It was in passing so I didn't ask questions.

$1M base in the NIL across 10 players, honestly doesn't seem that great, even if you don't spread it equally as $100K per player. And I love me some Dotzler's and Lord knows they're a great family with great kids, but is he someone we'd want to spend $100K on to sit the bench? I mean, we were his dream school, no?

Side note: I'm sure there's plenty of discussion on this all over the internet but II haven't looked it up. Wonder if it's ever been considered that kids making money would have to pay back some of their education expenses. Kinda feel like if you make money equal or above the cost of your scholarship, you should begin reimbursing some on a sliding scale or something.

Only if they are being paid over that directly by the school (employee of Creighton directly). This is technically sponsorship money.
Whenever someone says, "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart," all I hear is, "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart."
