I think it’s fair to think the question is both. Worth the discuss I think.

If you knew the future and had a choice between a G league team, coming back to CU or going abroad, all for the same amount for a year, what’s the decision? Assume G league since you’re closer to the NBA? In that case you’ve got pay more than G league AND avoid roster raids. Just spit balling.

But that’s rarely the decision.

With all the schools out there and all the money pouring in, what everyone else is offering is the most important variable. The G League pay structure is mostly fixed (unless you get a two way or something) and playing abroad is a mixed bag. But if you can get CU money or Nijel Pack money, that’s a real dilemma.

In fact, if I was the parent of a non-NBA player, I’d tell my son to save at least one year to get as big a bag as you can. I mean, with all the technological advances we are seeing here, who’s to say what even the near future looks like, from a workplace and societal standpoint? Bank the resources now when you’re in a position to get them.

This NIL thing is far from mature. It’s just my guess but when it does mature there will be at least a dozen (and probably more) teams that buy whomever they want and everyone else back fills.

The latest mock draft from Bleacher Report projects Baylor and Arthur going in the second round. But it acknowledges Arthur is a little bit of a risk. It also includes Hawkins, Whitmore, and Colby Jones on the list.

Pretty big risk to enter the draft and not go in the top 40ish picks. We probably pay more than anything after pick 45.

Zegarowski should give our players pause. Great kid and had an excellent career at Creighton. He was projected as a solid second round pick. He appeared to be a lock. NIL was uncertain at that point and he left. He ends up not getting picked and has gone through 2 years of being paid $40-$60 thousand playing in the G league. He is making less than our current roster. By a lot. He's living the dream, still has a shot but he isn't making much and it will probably end soon. If he would have gone to Europe he would have made more but if he wants the NBA its really hard to do that from Europe.
There's a reason our coaches are recruiting our current players harder than they are 5 star high school players. They are proven and we have a real good shot at keeping them. I can see us losing any one of our starting 5 to the likes of Arizona or Texas because they could double their pay, but not to Europe or the D league.
