For the 2021-2022 season, it looks like the Jays have three spots available, which could be four if Marcus Zegarowski goes pro. Other stuff is bound to happen, but let's work with what's in front of us.
Who are the ideal recruiting targets? From fans' perspectives, what's the best way to fill out the roster?
It feels like the PG spot is strong with or without Marcus. The Jays have Ryan Nembhard, Rati Andronikashvilii and Shereef Mitchell all capable of playing minutes there. It'll be a logjam - a great problem to have - if Marcus Z sticks it out another year.
The front court also looks solid with Kalk, Epp, Modestas and Bishop filling in the 4 and 5 spots, and with an injury or transfer, we could play small ball some with three guards.
Antwann Jones and Alex O'Connell (if he doesn't go for the waiver and play in 20/21) will play a lot at the 2/3 spots, along with Rati.
Oddly for Creighton, shooting beyond this year looks to be a weakness, with O'Connell being the only player I'd categorize as a great shooter. If I was running the team, I'd look to fill those three spots with a wing (Tamar Bates, Lucas Taylor or Jeremy Sochan are top of the list) and two shooters (take your pick of Mason Miller, Tucker Devries, or James White).
Who am I missing? Would we better off only signing two additional 2021 recruits, and going the grad transfer route for shooting since we will be pretty deep with able bodies? Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but based on our current roster, I feel like a very strong 2022 class is more important than a very strong 2021 class. Can a program like Creighton afford to think that way or do you just always grab the best talent you can? Lots of questions, but as you look at the next two seasons, things are looking positive.
And for the record, Hunter Sallis should still be a top priority. I'm just not seeing it and hope I'm wrong.
