thanks for this, I was trying to remember the dates of their commitments, but didn't have time to look them up. Given that last year was the first in the BE, I would think that we may have felt more pressure last year than this year.... i.e., there is no reason to think that our coaching staff is in a panic... rather, the logical explanation is that they saw a ton of top 100/150 guys and then saw Patton and Thomas and realized that they deserved our attention and their offers.

Addendum: People should a realize that we saw and offered Hanson almost immediately. He never did get a rating or evaluation from ESPN - later Rivals added more info on him after Nebraska, Gonzaga and Mizzou got involved. Should have we had a meltdown due to an unknown kid from South Dakota getting an offer so early?

Hanson had multiple big time offers though. Even though he wasn't rated by ESPN, he was a highly sought after prospect.

I believe we were the first major/mid-major offer for Hanson (and for Hegner as well). Yes, eventually he had a lot of offers, but not when we started recruiting him hard.

With regards to the 2015 class??? Isn't that exactly what's happening? We're about 40 guys down the 2015 list right now.

Are we sure that is what is happening? Most Top 150 kids haven't committed anywhere yet. July evaluation period ends on the 27th. Kids will start cutting lists making more visits in the next 2-3 months, some guys wait until school starts back up. I guess I don't know who the big losses are so far. McQuaid was one, but is now re-opening.

The Seton Hall recruiting guy at Holy Land still has CU after a lot of top 150 guys, more than most teams in conference. Joey's most recent hot list has several top 150 guys on it.

I guess i'm not worried unless we don't have more commits until later in September. Or its early November and we are trying to celebrate landing juco guys named Keithrick.

Exactly. A few top 150 kids have already committed, but most haven't even made cuts yet. To be worried this early is in all honesty ridiculous. Recruits will want to explore all of their options and will take time to make their decisions. This will take place after AAU ball slows down, as school begins and as signing day gets closer. It might not be until mid September that we get our second commit.
Speaking of Joey, does anyone know when or if his July recruiting update will be posted?

The only recruit I was disappointed in not getting for 2015 was McQuaid but now that he's back on the market, it's not so bad. Patton came out of left field so hopefully he turns out to be a contributor. Otherwise, until Illikainen, Watson, Clarke, McQuaid start making decisions, it's no time to worry yet. I would figure those are our top targets.

I'm bumping up the list I've updated, which does show that a good number of highly ranked prospects with Creighton offers (based on what Joey's said or what someone else of some reliability has tweeted at some point) are theoretically available. McK's N isn't totally off base though, either, as reports about certain players and info about who our staff's been watching this month make it pretty clear that a lot of the ranked names are highly unlikely to end up at Creighton (Clarke, McQuaid, and Watson currently look to be the most likely to visit or revisit of the big names). And, many of the names who have surfaced this summer are unranked guys. Of course, as Harrell demonstrated, plenty can happen in rankings from the end of a player's Junior year until the final class rankings next Spring, and our staff has a nice track record of being early on players who later climb up in recruiting status.

I still don't really understand the Illikainen deal, as Patton and he just don't seem like the same type of big man, it would surely be nice to have some more height and skill after this season, Patton's a project who might not be ready to contribute much for awhile (he may have greater long-term upside than Illikainen, but who knows), and the staff seemed to spend as much or more effort on Illikainen than any other prospect in this class. I think he'll end up at Minnesota, but that hardly seemed certain before CU backed off or Illikainen and CU backed off from one another. But, if the staff truly did view them as two possibilities to fill one scholarship, maybe what LJay said in another thread has some merit.

Alex slipped quite a long ways in the eyes of recruiting gurus after a disappointing summer of AAU. Perhaps, like most other scouts, our staff determined he wasn't the player they thought he was.

It sounds like Dupree McBrayer can get to the rim and finish with style.

Creighton was represented in Kansas City today. Got to see MOKAN Elite with Juwan Morgan and Shake Milton, the Illinois Wolves with Glynn Watson and Roosevelt Smart, and U15 Omaha Elite with SG Marques Wilson, a kid from Oklahoma who spends his summers here in Omaha. I've been old they like him a lot, and he's played very well this weekend (20 pts in game 1 and 18 in game 2). Aguek Arop is also on the team.
