He is redshirting this year so he should only have 2 and a half years of eligiblity left.

He is still on an athletic scholarship at Kansas this semester. He would need two semesters free of that before becoming eligible at another institution. Midyear next year at the earliest.

This sucks. So he has played one year, right? And because he stayed at KU this past semester does that mean he only has 2 1/2 years left? He only gets 3 1/2 years of basketball?

There are two different rules in place when things like this happen.

Rule 1: You only get one redshirt year (unless you qualify for an injury exception or are Grant Gibbs). Once the clock starts, you have 5 yrs to play 4. Connor's clock started last year. His not playing this yr (fall and spring) is his redshirt year.

Rule 2: when you transfer schools, you must sit out 2 semesters (unless you are transferring to be closer to a sick fam member). Connor is still enrolled at KU. Even though he is not playing there, his transfer won't be complete until he enrolls somewhere else. Once he enrolls, he has to sit for 2 semesters before playing.

That leaves him with 2.5 yrs of elibility. I hope that helps.

Incidentally, there is a good reason why he timed the transfer when he did. If he even played only a minute in a game this fall, this whole year counts as 1 of his 5. If he then transferred at semester, he loses this year, is not eligible until end of 1st semester next year, but only has 2 yrs left instead of 2.5. By transferring before playing in a game, he gives himself an extra semester to play.

So this information about years of eligibility left mean he will have to decide where he is going by about end of December so he starts school at his new school in January 2015?

Pretty much, although I suppose he could wait all the way up to the day that classes actually start for the second semester if he wants to...

And, by applying your rule #2 above, if he were to happen to wait and transfer at the end of the spring semester he would still have to sit out 2 semesters, thus becoming eligible at the start of the 2016-17 season (with 2.0 full seasons of eligibility.)

(I'm stating the seemingly obvious to bring out the point that a decision will be made at least by the first week of the spring semester to be eligible for 2.5 years and play in December 2015.)

I imagine that Conner will wait until fall classes are finished at KU (Dec. 12) to announce.

He may be waiting to learn exactly how much he will have to pay for the spring semester since we are full of scholarships.

He would have a scholarship after this spring.

Does Colorado or WSU have schollys available for this year/spring? If not, then he would have to pay a full semester at any of the 3 schools it seems he is looking at.

Off the top of my head I know that Wichita is over the scholarship limit. Colorado is at the limit for this year and will be next year, too, as they have only one senior graduating and already have a VC.

Sounds like it is time for Creighton to find Conner a lot of merit based scholarships.
