That one came out of left field. Seems to be a little like Khyri Thomas.

I'm guessing he gets his points inside. He's horrendous from the 3P line and Free Throw line. Reading his game log of last season, looks like he improved in stat categories as the year went on. Nearly had a double-double vs. UNLV.

I bopped over to their Scout board and found the thread about him being released.

Everyone who posted either said he was someone they really hoped would stay through the coaching change, said that they only want players truly committed to the program, or both. No one said that he wasn't a player.

Unexpected news. Had a few starts as a true freshman. Welcome aboard.

Jefferson played in 29 games this past season for UNM, starting six times. In 15.1 minutes per game, he averaged 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds. He scored double figures six times with a high of 14 points on Feb. 14 vs. Boise State.

Jefferson, the son of former Lobo Everette “Highway” Jefferson (1979-80), has not said where he plans to transfer.

He was recruited out of East Chicago (Ind.) Central High School and was rated a top 150 recruit one year ago.

Coming out of high school, he was touted by scouts as a player whose athleticism and toughness would make him a plus defender and rebounder. Whether that comes to pass or not at the Big East level, who knows, but of what I've read of him prior to being at New Mexico, that's a common thread. He had six games with five or more boards last year as a freshman, including nine rebounds (four offensive) against UNLV in mid-February. Analysis of him at New Mexico seems to indicate a player who's a decent shooter inside of 15 feet, but takes too many threes. Seems to have a nose for the ball and isn't afraid of contact going for rebounds. I like it.

The only name that comes to mind for me is Landreth Baugh, but that has been over 30 years ago. I feel old.
