2016 PG Cane Broome (Cincinnati Commit)

Postby hilltopalum » Fri Mar 18, 2016 8:40 pm

Creighton is going to be in play for the NEC Player of the Year Cane Broome from Sacred Heart. Broome, 6-0 lightning quick guard from CT, took very similar path as Mo. Got playing time and laid stamp on entire conference right away.

Freshman year :: 14 - 4 - 3

Sophomore year :: 23 - 5 - 3

Not greatest 3PT%, just under 33%, but an excellent FT% 76%. Prone to Turn the ball over according to Sacred Heart reporters but can sure fill it up.

Not saying he can't help the team, but surprised to see us in on another short backcourt transfer. How many tiny guards do we need?

Sweet. He could see Mo as a prime example of what he can do. I'll always take a skilled guard.

Wtf....why would you say that?

If he is anything like Mo, as many as we can get.

Just meant that front court is a much bigger need it seems like.

One big difference between Mo and Broome is that Mo was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school with a big history of success; Broome was not. I'm not saying he wouldn't/couldn't be a fantastic addition; I'd just caution folks that think we'd be getting Mo 2.0.

and i think patriot league is a higher level of competition

but - still - impressive numbers and intriguing prospect

if you're a pass first PG - i'd think you'd love playing in this offense with Mo being the blueprint kinda guy to follow

Agreed. He's an intriguing player, and I can definitely see the coaches looking to land an experienced PG for the year after MO graduates.

He may be even more of a scorer and less pass-first than Mo, though, and although he's put up big numbers, his team played even fewer teams from Power conferences than Mo's -- he got 26 against Northwestern, for instance, but that's about it. article notes he did pretty well against top 100 Kenpom teams, though.
