2017 G Austin Hutcherson (Transfer)

Sat Jul 27, 2019 10:18 am

No idea about the legitimacy of this one, but a random Twitter account says Hutcherson is transferring from Division III Wesleyan (Conn.) University and is considering Creighton, Notre Dame, Illinois, and Marquette.

A 6'6 guard, he would be a "sit one, play two" transfer. He was the 2018 NESCAC (conference) Rookie of the Year, and received All-NESCAC First Team honors this past season.

Yes he is visiting campus this weekend. A note made in today's practice report for Australia.

Head scratcher.

I’m sure this isn’t an apples to apples comparison but Milliken averaged 18 ppg and shot 42% from 3 at Cowley College before transferring here. Hutcherson averaged 20 ppg and shot 39% from 3. So, if he chooses us I’d assume he’s just rotational depth.

This might be a completely dumb statement because I really don't know how to evaluate players, but after seeing that highlight reel he sort of looks like a version of Lonzo Ball.

We need more 6’6” guards.

the offers we're up against are very legit. He isn't that much of an under the radar guy as top programs want to land him.

Looks perfect for us as a player. He can shoot obviously, but he can also get his own shot. He can handle the ball and played PG at times for his current team, and according to his coach, he plays D as well. I can see the interest and can see why he'd like to play in our system.

Not sure what this means for our scholarship allocation for next year. If we landed him then I'd have to think that the last 2 scholarships for the year would be PF/C type bigs

This kid can actually play. We need a stretch 4 type player in the worst way but at least this wouldn't be a waste of a scholarship.
