D1 transfer, juco or frosh?

Fri Jan 30, 2015 3:50 pm

First time caller, long-time listener. But hey, do you think we'd benefit more next season getting a guy like K. Thomas who'd be a true freshman or someone like Cunningham or Kreklow (e.g. last off-season) who is a D1 transfer? Or a Juco?

We have one scholarship left for next season correct? If I am right in that assumption I think I could see the benefits of a D1 or juco transfer, someone who can come in and make an impact. I suppose it certainly matters on who it is but we'll have three incoming freshmen already next year so I wouldn't be upset if we got a juco or transfer.

I was just curious what everyone's thoughts were. I'll hang up and listen.

I believe we will be getting a juco guard and probably there will be more than one scholarship at years end.

For me it depends upon how (or if?) quickly Zierden recovers next year, since it appears we are looking at off-guards/wings. If Zierden is ready to go next year I say we get a freshman (developmental guy with potential, maybe) or transfer, who would be able to benefit by sitting out a year. If Zierden isn't then we need an impact Juco, grad transfer, or a really polished freshman. If Zierden doesn't return (and I hope he does, but come on, he's had two major knee injuries in a calendar year), then I'd say we go out and get an impact juco to fill Zierden's spot and a developmental freshmen or a transfer.

We need a point guard so bad. We cannot have a walk-on PG. TC has done a good job but we need a PG. This is very urgent, IMHO

Though he's listed as a combo, Marlon plays strictly point guard at North Scott.

I hope you mean a back-up PG. The starting PG position is Mo Watson's to lose.

Interesting. You thinking injury-related, graduated and will be a 5th year Senior-related, off-the-court/suspension-related or someone else? And, are you thinking just one extra in addition to the one that is currently available? Excluding the two transfers, who surely are sticking around, there are only 7 possibilities (can't imagine Hegner going anywhere else and I'd be real disappointed if either Gilmore or Harrell left).

At this point, I'm in the Khryi Thomas camp, if he's eligible to play D-1 ball next season.

We do need some immediate help at guard, but I hope that (a) it will be someone able to contribute much more consistently than Brooks, (b) it's not someone who takes nearly a year and a half plus a suspension to contribute, like Milliken. Not sure we want to be a frequent landing spot for Jucos, but maybe I'm alone in thinking that way.

i'm all for holding an open spot for mid-season transfer

we got through the non-con OK with the current roster - but imagine if we'd had a luke fischer this year - or next year a Semi Ojeleye to go with Wop and Huff

I can't see it being Milliken, unless he screws up again, because he has no rope left and the decision will be made for him.
