(I can't think of an animal that isn't already somebody else's mascot). A stirring, never-quit win in a super-extended, epic, who-wants-it-more 3rd set, absolute domination in the 4th set where we made them look like UNO instead of UNL and, even with the tank on empty, gamely competing in the 5th.
But back to my earlier theme. It's high time we stop giving them a true home game, serving ourselves up as the evening's entree. Nobody wins down there. I've never been so I don't know how truly intimidating it is, but clearly they have a massive edge down there and we really need to stop giving it to them. They're the only team in this series that gets true home court. It's a lopsided, one-sided advantage that they don't deserve. We're not some damn buy team.
Play every year at CHI. Even that's a major concession on our part, but that should be the extent of it. At least we can get our own fans in the building, even if they're greatly outnumbered. And we don't have to get on some damn bus and make a semi-annual pilgrimage to Lincoln, like we're paying tribute to them or something. And if they say, "no, no. We just can't agree to something like that", then, fine, they just paused the series. But why would they? Tbh, this has become a sure-fire win for them against a ranked team. Half their fanbase is in Omaha, and they get on a bus every year to play an exhibition in Grand Island anyway, which is farther.
Creighton's Ath Dept is far too accommodating to that school in Lincoln. We rule the state in basketball, both genders, we've owned their asses in baseball (admittedly, this coming season's prospects don't look quite so bright), and we'll do just fine in VB without them. They should hope to be our equal in athletics, not the other way around. Just stop giving them a home advantage in this series they don't deserve and, looking at it from their pov, they don't even really need.
The big difference between VB and the basketball programs, is we need to play them more than they need to play us. Our conference hurts us in terms of RPI, whereas their conference is arguably the best VB conference in the country and strengthens their RPI. So, if AD Blossom starts pushing terms to them, they are more apt to just walk away as playing us does nothing for them. We have to acquiesce to their location demands to continue the series. And without them on our schedule, it makes it that much harder to host first weekend of the tournament.
