This is what happens when you don't retool in the transfer portal after losing key players

Friday night had Creighton WBB opening their season on the road. The Bluejays fought, but they came up short against South Dakota St.

Matt DeMarinis reports in from Brookings with the recap and post game.

Flan’s teams are sub .500 in season openers, and worse than that for road openers. I wouldn’t put much stock in this game.

Flan said they didn't have the money to compete against high majors for a replacement for Ronsiek.
That's why they went with a D-2 transfers.

He straight up said that? Is there an article?

“Honestly, we shot for some Division I transfers and we couldn’t touch ’em,” Flanery said Oct. 2. “The going rate is — I don’t know what it is, but we couldn’t touch some of the transfers we thought we could get.”

Pretty tough situation for a team in its glory days. Volleyball has been lucky to have some generous donors behind it. Not so for women's hoops, plus attendance is not that good for a team ranked most of the last couple years.

Thanks for saying this, I was going to say the same. SDSU will likely be an NCAA Tournament team again, going on the road at a tough place to play to open the season - it's not a bad loss. Drake will be a tough game again tonight. Last year when two of the top three players had off nights, usually the other one picked up the slack. On Friday LJ and Morgan combined to shoot 2-13 from 3FG and didn't have Emma to bail them out. That won't happen often, but could be an issue. Off shooting nights happen, I'd be more concerned about the rebounding margin.

Flan's teams typically have a hiccup in non-con and have no issue recovering for conference. Hopefully they play better tonight.
